Mankato, Minn.- The Mankato MoonDogs ended their two game losing streak Friday night, literally walking away with a win against the Rochester Honkers by a score of 5-4 at Franklin Rogers Park. In the bottom of the ninth with no outs, the bases loaded and a full count, MoonDogs Sam Lind (Vanderbilt) watched ball four cross the plate and drew the walk to bring James McDonald (Arizona St.) across home plate for the winning run. Lind was 2-for-4 on the night with the game winning RBI.

The MoonDog offense broke out of its slump Friday night. Chris Ross (Montevallo) led the way for the MoonDogs and had a great game, Ross was 2-for-4 from the plate and scored two runs. Ross was a speed demon on the base paths, stealing three bags in the game.

Honker first baseman Johnny Coy (Wichita State) hit his second home run in as many nights in the top of the first to put the Honkers on the board. Each team put a run on the scoreboard in the first and second inning to head into the third inning with the score tied 2-2.

The two teams traded the lead multiple times during the game, until it all came down to the top of the ninth inning with the MoonDogs up 4-3 over the Honkers. The Honkers had a runner on third with MoonDog pitcher Patrick Goelz (Bethune-Cookman) on the mound. Goelz took his set and was ready to pitch, but then was called for a balk which allowed the Honkers to score the game tying run. The MoonDogs eventually got out of the inning and scored the game winning run on Lind’s walk.

The MoonDogs will now have a three game home series against the Alexandria Beetles. The Beetles will arrive at Franklin Rogers for the first time this season. Saturday night is Reusable Shopping Bag Night presented by Farm Bureau and Minnesota 93. The first 400 fans will receive a Farm Bureau reusable Shopping Bag.
