Rochester, Minn- The Mankato MoonDogs had their three game winning streak snapped Wednesday night, losing to the Rochester Honkers 14-5 at Mayo Field.

MoonDogs leadoff man John Michael Twichell (UT-Arlington) got the night started off on the right foot for Mankato, sending a leadoff homerun high over the right field wall. Twichell lead the MoonDogs offensively going 3-for-4 at the plate with two homeruns (4), raising his season batting average to .377.

The early 1-0 lead was short lived though, with the Honkers posting two runs in the bottom of the first inning off of starter Davis Henderson (Oklahoma City U). Henderson (2-2) was the unfortunate victim in Rochester’s power surge, allowing 8 runs on 8 hits over 4 2/3 innings.

Henderson wasn’t the only MoonDog pitcher to struggle against the Honkers Wednesday night. Relievers Alex Hill (Central Arizona), Kyle Turner (Missouri Baptist), and Trey Nielson (Utah), gave up a combined 6 runs on four hits over the final 3 1/3 innings.

The MoonDogs and Honkers will be back in Mankato for game three Thursday night at Franklin Rogers Park. Thursday night is Twins Night presented by Buffalo Wild Wings and KTOE. Fans will have the chance to meet former Twin, Terry Steinbach at the Hilltop Buffalo Wild Wings starting at 5:30pm before he throws out the first pitch along with taking pictures and signing autographs at the game. Wally "The Beer Man," Twins organist, Sue Nelson, and Twins mascot, TC Bear will also be in attendance.
