Alexandria, Mn- After a rain shortened night Friday, the Mankato MoonDogs and Alexandria Beetles played two games Saturday evening, with the Beetles winning both games 12-11 and 5-2 at Knute Nelson Memorial Park.
-Game 1-
After six lead changes and two ties, it was a walk-off single from Matt Lowenstein that brought home the winning run for the Alexandria Beetles in a 12-11 victory over the Mankato MoonDogs. Lowenstein got on base four times in the game for the Alexandria Beetles, while scoring two runs.
The ‘Dogs were led offensively by Chad Christensen and Kevin Corey who each blasted a two-run home run in the 4th inning to take a 5-4 lead before the rain came in Friday night. Christensen finished the night 2-for-5 with 2 RBI and 2 Runs scored, while Corey had his best night as a MoonDog, going 2-for-4 at the plate with 4 RBI and one run scored.
Both squads had things going at the plate, tallying 23 runs and 29 hits, including zero extra base hits. Both bullpens were busy with 10 pitchers used in the game as the skippers of both squads tried to finish it off.
Matt Marsh took the loss, lasting just a third of an inning, allowing one run on three hits.
Anthony Bazzani got the win, giving up one hit in relief while walking two.
-Game 2-
Both the Alexandria Beetles (28-34) and the Mankato MoonDogs (39-23) put runners aboard on Saturday, but it was the Alexandria Beetles that were able to take advantage, pulling out a 5-2 win at Knute Nelson Memorial Park.
Ryan Padilla racked up four RBIs while crushing two doubles in the first and third innings for the Beetles.
Chad Christensen went a perfect 2-2 at the plate for Mankato, doubling in the fourth inning and singled in the sixth inning.
Jon Reed improved to 5-1 on the year, allowing two runs over six innings. Reed struck out five, walked two and gave up seven hits against the MoonDogs.
Boomer Scarborough was charged with his second loss of the year, lasting just 3 2/3 innings, walked two, struck out five, and allowed five runs.
The Dogs return home Monday August 6th to take on the Duluth Huskies. Monday’s game will be MoonDogs Hat giveaway presented by Community Bank and Minnesota 93. The first 500 fans will receive a MoonDogs hat courtesy of Community Bank.
