MANKATO, Minn.–The Mankato MoonDogs Baseball Club, a member of the Northwoods League, is excited to announce that former MoonDog and Faribault, Minn. native, Jake Petricka, received a call up Friday from the Chicago White Sox.
Replacing Ramon Troncoso, who was placed on the disabled list Saturday with a pericarditis, a swelling of the lining of the heart, Petricka joined the team Friday in his home state of Minnesota as the White Sox faced the Twins for a four game stand. Although the right-handed reliever did not make his debut while in Minnesota, Petricka will look to make his first appearance in the near future.
According to whitesox.com, Field Manager Robin Ventura said, "He throws hard, it’s more about location right now and being able to come up here and just pitch…The way our games are, you know he’s going to get used."
Petricka spent the 2009 summer with the MoonDogs, after finishing his sophomore year at Indiana State University. While a MoonDog, the right-handed starting pitcher recorded 12 starts with a 3.29 ERA, and 44 strikeouts in 68.1 innings pitched.
Petricka started this past season at Double-A Birmingham and was promoted to Charlotte in early July, making his first appearance with the Knights on July 4th. Over 10 games, he pitched 15 1/3 innings and allowed just two runs on nine hits, while giving up seven walks and striking out 17, posting a 1.17 ERA.
