MANKATO-Minn. The MoonDogs used a four run third inning to stop their four game losing streak, topping the Alexandria Blue Anchors by a final score of 7-4 on Friday night in Mankato.

Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the third, Tyler Sullivan led off with a single for the MoonDogs. Brett Synek followed with a double down the right field line, scoring Sullivan and tying the game. Mankato wasn’t done yet though and they got more RBI support from Levi Scott, and Derek Umphres.

Taylor Elman got the win on the mound for the MoonDogs, improving his record to 3-0 on the season in his fifth start. Elman threw six complete innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on seven hits and one walk. Alexandria starting pitcher Jason Zgardowski was tagged with the loss, giving up five earned runs on seven hits including two doubles and two walks.

The MoonDogs added single runs in the fourth and eighth innings and called on Tyler Mark to close the game in the ninth with a three run lead. Both teams were sloppy in the field as the Blue Anchors recorded three errors and the MoonDogs with two.

The MoonDogs (18-14) will be back in action tomorrow night at Franklin Rogers Park to play the Thunder Bay Border Cats (13-19) with first pitch at 6:05pm. Fans can listen to the game on AM1230 The Fan Mankato with the radio voice of the team Josh Horton.
