The Mankato MoonDogs dropped a 4-3 heartbreaker in walk-off fashion at Simmons Field in Kenosha, WI on Sunday evening.
The MoonDogs again struck first in the ballgame, scoring runs on an RBI double and an RBI single off the bat of Levi Scott in the first and third innings.
However, Kenosha picked up two runs in the fourth to tie the ballgame at 2-2 and eventually took a 3-2 lead after scoring a run in the home half of the eighth.
Scott brought the MoonDogs back in the game with a long solo blast over the left-centerfiel wall knotting the game at 2-2 in the top of the ninth.
However, the Kingfish got a run of their own in the ninth on a single to left field with the bases loaded and just one out to win the series finale 4-3 in walk-off fashion.
Scott led the MoonDogs going 3-4 with three RBI while Craig Lepre finished the night with two hits.
Cord Cockrell was terrific in his first start of the season for the MoonDogs, tossing 7 2/3 innings allowing just two runs on four hits and struck out one. Mark Curtis suffered the loss for the MoonDogs while Brett Shimanovsky picked up the win for the Kingfish.
Following the road finale the MoonDogs head home to Mankato to face Willmar at “The Frank.” First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
