EAU CLAIRE- Wisc. The Mankato MoonDogs couldn't get the offense going on Sunday night at Carson Park as they dropped the season finale by a score of 7-1 but were able to win the north division second half title anyway as the Waterloo Bucks also lost on Sunday night.

James McMahon got the start for Mankato and was able to keep the MoonDogs in the ballgame giving up four earned runs through five innings. The MoonDogs weren't able to provide any run support for their pitching staff though, managing just five hits on the night.

The Express didn't have the big offensive inning that is the norm in the Northwoods League but they did find a way to get runners on base in almost every inning, scoring runs in the first, third, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings, totaling fifteen hits.

Despite the loss, the MoonDogs had an impressive last week of the season. Seven games ago they were three and a half games behind the first place Waterloo Bucks and after racking up six straight victories, found themselves on top of the north division needing either a win or a Bucks' loss to clinch a playoff spot.

The MoonDogs ended the regular season (21-15) in the second half and held a tiebreaker over the Duluth Huskies and the Willmar Stingers who ended tied with Mankato in the standings. Overall the MoonDogs finished (42-30).

The Northwoods League first round playoff series begins tomorrow and the MoonDogs will have the chance to play at Franklin Rogers Park for game one in Mankato at 7:05 on Monday. Call the MoonDogs office or stop in for your tickets!
