Olson Throws Complete Game

The Willmar Stingers, Charley Olson (Georgia State), threw a complete game two hitter against the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers on Wednesday. Olson helped the Stingers take the game 7-2 while striking out eight and only giving up one earned run. Olson moves to 2-2 on the seasons and will go into the record books as the first Stinger to throw a complete game. The Stingers moved to 11-10 after Olson’s performance.

Winkler Throws a Gem

Danny Winkler (Parkland College) is currently 2-1 for the Rochester Honkers in 3 games started. Winkler helped beat the Mankato MoonDogs by throwing a complete game two hit shut-out. Winkler gave up two hits in the second inning, but retired the next 22 of 24 batters he faced. Winkler also only threw an outstanding 101 pitches while 62 were strikes.

Jones Throws Gem

James Jones (Louisiana Monroe) threw 7.1 innings of great baseball against the Eau Claire Express and helped the Battle Creek Bombers to a 2-1 victory. He only gave up four hits during the 7.1 innings and allowed one earned run. Jones was the leader of the Louisiana Monroe pitching staff and ranked in the top two on the team in games started (13), strike outs (72) and innings pitched (80.1). James was selected in the 45th round by the Cleveland Indians in the 2009 MLB Draft.

Teague Tames River Bats

Kyle Teague (Oakland) led the Lunkers to a 9-1 victory over the St. Cloud River Bats Sunday. Teague threw 7.0 innings of one run baseball while striking out six River Bats. Teague is now 2-0 on the season with a 0.67 ERA. Teague’s command is one of the best in the NWL and has only allowed four walks in 27 innings pitched.

Jones Throws Gem

University of Portland right handed pitcher, Owen Jones, threw 7.0 innings for the Bullfrogs to help beat the Eau Claire Express 2-1. Jones struck out seven while only giving up one run. Jones led Portland with a record of 4-2 with an extremely low ERA of 2.56. Jones and his Express are currently 10-6 and .5 games ahead of the Wisconsin Woodchucks.

Mueller Mows Down Bombers

Tony Mueller (Winona State) led his hometown La Crosse Loggers to a 5-2 win over the Battle Creek Bombers. Mueller threw 7.0 innings of two run baseball while striking out nine Bombers. The La Crosse native is currently 2-1 with a 2.95 ERA and is average a strike out an inning. For the Winona State Warriors, Mueller led the team on the mound with a 6-1 record and also was the team’s lead-off hitter. Tony hit an outstanding .439 with 27 extra base hits and 19 steals.

Olson Shuts Out Honkers

Charley Olson (Georgia State) threw 8.0 innings of scoreless baseball and only gave up two hits. Olson helped the Stingers beat the Honkers 1-0 in Willmar Thursday night. Olson struck out nine Honkers and moved his record to 1-2. Olson was 5-4 for Georgia State in 2010 with 93.2 innings pitched which led the team.

Tatum Throws Gem for Thunder Bay

The Thunder Bay Border Cats finally got back on the winning track thanks to a great pitching performance from John Tatum (McNeese State) who threw 7.0 innings of four hit baseball. Tatum moves to 1-1 on the season with a 2.65 ERA in 17.0 innings pitched.

Parker Pitches Well Out of Pen

Travis Parker (St. Louis) threw extremely well in relief Tuesday night for the Madison Mallards. Parker, in his first outing of the year, threw 4.0 innings against Battle Creek and earned the win for the Mallards by a score of 4-3. The righty from Lincoln, NE struck out two while giving up zero runs.

Hulse Powers Huskies

Conner Hulse (Harvard) threw 6.0 innings of scoreless baseball Monday night against the Willmar Stingers. The 6’2’’ righty gave up two hits and one walk while striking out four Stingers. Hulse moved to 1-1 on the 2010 season for the Huskies and now as a 3.94 ERA. In high school, Hulse was a member of two state championship teams and a runner-up finish.

Great Pitching Performance by Lunkers Teague

Kyle Teague threw a 7.0 inning three hitter to help beat the Mankato MoonDogs. The Oakland University righty, struck out nine MoonDogs while keeping them to no runs. Teague received the no-decision, but put the Brainerd Area Lakes Lunkers in a great position for a win. Teague led Oakland University in wins in 2010 and led the team in innings pitched at 81.0 and games started.

Licon Leads Rafters

Chris Licon (Lubbock Christian) led the Wisconsin Woodchucks over rival Wisconsin Rapids Rafters by a score of 2-0. Licon threw a complete game six-hit shutout while striking out five. The righty has a 2-0 record for the ‘Chucks with an ERA of 0.38 in 18.2 innings pitched.
