Willman Lowers League Best ERA

Joe Willman (Northern Colorado) was electric on the mound Tuesday night for Brainerd Lakes Area. The 6’0’’ lefty form Aurora, CO allowed only two hits in 8.0 innings of work against the Thunder Bay Border Cats. Willman is now 4-0 on the season in six appearances and has 34 strikeouts in 36.0 innings pitched. His ERA dropped to a Northwoods League best 0.75.

Conyers Shuts Down Honkers

Aaron Conyers (Sacramento City College) led Brainerd to victory Thursday night against the Rochester Honkers. The 6'0'' lefty from California improved his record to 4-1 on the season in five games started. Conyers threw 7.1 innings and allowed six hits against the Honkers who are now 9-18. The Lunkers improve to 16-9 with the nice performance from Conyers.

Briner Brilliant in Start

Tom Briner (UC-Davis) was impressive in his start against the Madison Mallards Tuesday night. The 6'2'' right-handed pitcher threw 6.0 innings of three hit baseball to take down the Mallards. Briner is now 2-0 in 2011 in three starts and has a 0.56 earned run average in 16.0 innings pitched.

Mankato’s Schwartz Shines on the Mound

Blake Schwartz (Mankato State) had the best pitching performance on the 2011 NWL season on Monday night. The 6'3'' righty from Rosemount, MN threw a complete game two hitter against the Thunder Bay Border Cats at Franklin Rogers Park. Schwartz is now 3-0 in 2011 with the MoonDogs in five games. He has 32.2 innings pitched and an impressive 4-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
