WILLMAR, Minn. – Willmar picked up three victories in one day against the Mankato MoonDogs Saturday night at Franklin Rogers Park, including a seven-inning shutout.

At 4:05 p.m., Willmar and Mankato resumed a game from June 21 that was suspended in the bottom of the 12 inning in an 8-8 tied. Chris Gonzales (Point Loma Nazarene) shut down the MoonDogs for two innings, while Jason Leblebijian (Bradley) hit an RBI single in the top of the 13th to score Ryan Dettman (Oregon State) and give the Stingers a 9-8 victory in 13 innings. Dettman led off the inning with a walk and a stolen base to set up Leblebijian’s game-winning hit.

In a seven-inning game to make up Friday’s postponed contest, the Stingers scored in the first inning and led the whole way after Mitch Rowan (Willamette) began the game with a walk and scored on a wild pitch. Garrett Borba (Pacific) followed suit in the third with a leadoff walk and scored on a safety squeeze bunt by Eduardo Gonzalez (Alcorn State). Jarid Scarafiotti (Stephen F. Austin) singled in the fourth to score Mitch Delfino (California) after he singled and stole second. The Stingers added their final run on a leadoff walk by Rowan, who eventually scored on a balk. Ricky Knapp earned the victory after going five innings and allowing only three hits with no walks in a 4-0 victory.

In the nightcap, Leblebijian hit a three-run homer to left field in the first inning, and the Stingers never looked back. John Haberman (Pacific) added an RBI double to score Jake Stinnett (Maryland) in the first. Stinnett added an RBI later in the game to give Willmar a 5-0 advantage. The MoonDogs added two unearned runs to make the final score 5-2. Thomas Taylor (Kansas) earned the victory with four scoreless innings, while Kurt Spomer (Creighton) picked up his team-leading fifth save of the season.

Willmar will now have three days off for the Northwoods League All-Star Break before playing a doubleheader next Wednesday, July 20, at Duluth beginning at 5:05 p.m.
