WILLMAR–Make it two in a row for the Stingers, who’ve rebounded tremendously from a four game losing streak to take the final two games of a five game set with Mankato to even the season series at four games apiece after Sunday’s 10-5 thrashing of the Moondogs at Bill Taunton Stadium in Willmar. With the win, the Stingers improve to 20-18 overall in 2010 and 2-1 in the second half of their inaugural season.

Stingers starter Cedric Pomerlee struggled again in his sixth start of the season, allowing two earned runs on two hits over just two and a third innings, walking three Moondogs along the way. Pomerlee got the no-decision in the big win for Willmar, as Logan Birr got credit for the ‘W’ after an impressive six strikeout, one run performance in three and two thirds in relief. Despite allowing just five runs in the game, the Stingers used six different pitchers, as Daniel Zapata, Jayson Huett, and Jacob Barnes all made brief appearances in the ballgame.

At the plate it was a team effort, with production coming from all over the place for Willmar.  With the exception of Sean Dwyer, every Stingers batter reached base at least once, with Jordan Smith’s three for five night leading the way. Carlos Leyva, Jared Norris, and Andrew Haake each drove in a pair of runs, and Nate Johnson hit his second home run of the season, a deep bomb to right center in the seventh inning.

Next up for the Stingers it’s a solitary game at Joe Faber Field on Monday against the River Bats before returning home for a pair with St. Cloud on Tuesday and Wednesday.  You won’t want to miss Tuesday’s game, as it’s Gold Out Night! The first 500 fans through the gates will receive a Stingers rally towel, plus all fans are encouraged to wear gold t-shirts to the game.
