WILLMAR, Minn.—In the first game of the second half of the season, the Stingers dropped a tough decision to the Mankato MoonDogs 7-5 at Bill Taunton Stadium Wednesday night.

After an off-day Tuesday, Willmar came out of the gate firing with a run in the bottom of the first inning to take the quick 1-0 lead. With one out, Jack Ross got hit by a pitch and then stole second base while Reagan Fowler was at the plate. Ross moved to third base when Fowler reached on an error and then scored on an RBI single by Casey Hughston.

Starting in his fourth game for the Stingers (0-1 2nd half, 22-9 overall), Matt Snyder kept Mankato at bay for the first two innings of the game, but walks came back to haunt him in the third inning. The three men Snyder allowed free passes to in the inning all came into score when Levi Scott cleared the bases on a double to center field.

But after the MoonDogs (1-0 2nd half, 22-15) went up 6-1 in the fifth, Willmar got right back into the game with three runs of its own. Dan Motl walked to start the rally and Ross followed with an infield single. A fly out by Fowler moved Motl to third and he came into score on Nick Rivera's double down the left field line. Ross scored on a wild pitch and Rivera scored on Hutton Moyer's single to make it a 6-4 game.

Willmar added another run in the bottom of the sixth but that was all the closer it got, as Mankato tacked on an insurance run in the top of the seventh to make it 7-5, the score that held up as the final.

Brett Barbier led the Stingers at the plate with his 3×4 performance that included a run scored and a stolen base. It was the most hits this season in a game for Barbier.
