2011 NWL Offensive Leaders

As most NWL teams have played 12 games so far in 2011, offensive leaders are starting to set themselves apart. Carlos Escobar (Nevada-Reno) is leading the Northwoods League in various offensive categories. The 6’3’’ catcher is currently leading the league in batting average, (.467), slugging percentage (.700), and on-base plus (.529).

LeViseur Swinging a Hot Bat

Mike LeViseur (Seton Hill) of the Alexandria Beetles had a great night at the plate Monday. The right-handed hitting 1st basemen was 3-for-5 on the night with two runs scored and four RBIs. LeViseur also connected on his 2nd home run of the season and is now hitting .405 in 2011.

Great Game for Madison’s Garcia

Jumpy Garcia (Texas A&M Corpus-Christi) paced the Madison offense Sunday afternoon with three hits. The right-handed hitting catcher was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Garcia has started out hot at the plate this summer for the Mallards. In his 2nd year with the Mallards, Garcia is hitting .500 in 18 at-bats with two homers and seven RBIs.

Griffin Gives It His All

Aaron Griffin (Loyola Marymount) of the Brainerd Lunkers earned a no-decision Sunday, but had a perfect game going until the 7th inning. Griffin threw 7.0 innings of two-hit baseball while allowing one run. The Lunkers lost 2-1 in 14 innings against the MoonDogs in Mankato.

Dillon Gee Dominant in 2011

Dillon Gee improved to 7-0 this season for the New York Mets Friday night. Gee guided the Mets to victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates as he threw 8.0 innings and only allowed one earned run.

Borenstein to Sign with Angels

(Rochester Minn.) Mankato MoonDog outfielder Zach Borenstein was recently selected in the Major League Baseball First-Year Players Draft by the Los Angeles Angels. The Eastern Illinois standout was taken in the 23rd round with the 705th overall pick.
