Forjet Earns 2nd Pitcher the Night

Jason Forjet (Florida Gulf Coast) may have not picked up the win Wednesday night, but he wins his 2nd 'NWL Pitcher of the Night' award. Forjet and the Lunkers won in extra innings against the St. Cloud River Bats by a score of 4-3. The right-handed pitcher did not allow a run in 7.0 innings of work. Forjet is now 2-0 with a 2.37 earned run average in 19.0 innings pitched.

Perfect Night for La Crosse’s Flynn

Cameron Flynn (Kentucky) of the La Crosse Loggers helped the team to victory Wednesday night. Flynn, an outfielder, was a perfect 3-for-3 with with three RBIs and one run scored. Flynn is now hitting .245, but has six hits in his last 15 at-bats.

The Northwoods League regular season is a constant grind with players participating in 70 games in 75 days. NWL players play approximately 55 games in 90 days during their intercollegiate season so the ‘professional style’ NWL season is often times challenging to get used to.

Rusty Shellhorn (Texas Tech) threw a four hitter in 6.0 innings of work Tuesday night against the Eau Claire Express. The 5'9'' left-handed pitcher has pitched excellent for the Mallards in 2011. Shellhorn is currently 2-0 with a 1.59 earned run average in 17.0 innings pitched.

Bomber’s Rockett has Career Night

Daniel Rockett (Texas San Antonio) had a career night Tuesday for the Battle Creek Bombers. The 6'1'' outfielder was 4-for-5 on the night with four runs scored and five RBIs. Rockett had two doubles, a home run and a stolen base against the Loggers in La Crosse.

LeViseur Swinging a Hot Bat

Mike LeViseur (Seton Hill) of the Alexandria Beetles had a great night at the plate Monday. The right-handed hitting 1st basemen was 3-for-5 on the night with two runs scored and four RBIs. LeViseur also connected on his 2nd home run of the season and is now hitting .405 in 2011.

2011 NWL Offensive Leaders

As most NWL teams have played 12 games so far in 2011, offensive leaders are starting to set themselves apart. Carlos Escobar (Nevada-Reno) is leading the Northwoods League in various offensive categories. The 6’3’’ catcher is currently leading the league in batting average, (.467), slugging percentage (.700), and on-base plus (.529).
