Jensen Beats Stingers

Christopher Jensen (San Diego) of the Duluth Huskies earned his third win of the season with a 4-2 win over the Willmar Stingers. Jensen threw 6.0 innings of four-hit baseball while giving up zero runs. Jensen’s ERA is now 2.42 and has 36 strikeouts in 34.2 innings pitched. Blake Schwartz (Minnesota State) of the MoonDogs also threw well in relief and earned the save as the MoonDogs beat the Rochester Honkers 2-1.

Asche Powers North to All-Star Victory

The fans in attendance of the 2010 Northwoods All-Star Game at Carson Park in Eau Claire, Wisconsin were treated to a fantastic game. The North Division All-Stars took the game 7-5 over the South All-Stars in front of a crowd just shy of 4,000 fans. The North’s Cody Asche (Nebraska) of the Duluth Huskies was the ‘Star of Stars’ in the game for going 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and two RBI and helping the North to victory.

Threlkeld Wins 2010 Homerun Derby

The 2010 Northwoods Home Run Derby was hosted by the Eau Claire Express at Carson Park and was held Tuesday night. The Home Run Derby consisted of eight players across the Northwoods League and was headlined by 2009 winner Harold Riggins (NC State) of the Madison Mallards. Duluth Huskie Mark Threlkeld won the 2010 Home Run Derby over Madison Mallard Kyle Gaedele (Valparaiso).

Watch 2010 All-Star Festivities Live

The 2010 Northwoods League All-Star Game will be taking place at Carson Park today, but can also been watched at www.nwltickets.com. This is the first year the Eau Claire Express will be hosting the All-Star Game. There will be a Fan Fest in front of Carson Park starting at 4pm followed by the Home Run Derby at 6pm, with the game and fireworks to follow.

2010 Home Run Derby Participants

Eight players from the Northwoods League will participate in the 2010 Home Run Derby this Tuesday the 20th. The 2010 Home Run Derby will begin at 6:05 PM and is sponsored by the Leader Telegram and Bothun Automotive. The participant field will consist of four players from the North Division and four from the South Division.

Sunday’s Rundown

Madison continued its hot hitting over the past few days and beat the Waterloo Bucks 10-2. The Mallards had 13 hits and were once again led by Rafael Lopez (Florida State) and Harold Riggins (NC State). Lopez was 3-for-4 while Riggins had three hits and three RBI. Zach McCool (Iowa) had two hits and a run scored in the loss.

Threlkeld’s Perfect Day

Mark Threlkeld (Louisiana Tech) was a perfect 4-for-4 on the day with three RBI and two runs scored against the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers. Threlkeld now has seven homeruns on the season with a .284 batting average. He is tied with Huskies teammate Cody Asche (Nebraska) and Mallard Harold Riggins (NC State)for the league lead in homeruns (7). Joel Hutter (Dallas Baptist) had four hits for the Green Bay Bullfrogs in their win against the Wisconsin Woodchucks

Wheeler Throws Complete Game

Jason Wheeler (Loyola Marymount) threw a complete game three hitter to help the St. Cloud River Bats beat the Rochester Honkers 1-0 in a pitchers duel. Wheeler struck out five Honker batters and improved his record to a perfect 5-0 on the season with a 1.39 ERA. Wheeler has struck out 40 batters this season in 39.0 innings pitched.

Saturday’s Action

The La Crosse Loggers jumped out to a 1-0 lead after three innings, but the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters fought back with single runs in the fifth and seventh to take the game 2-1. Relief pitcher Jesse Arreola (Cal Baptist) earned the win while Brad Douthit (USC) got the save. Rafter’s designated hitter Craig Shul (UNLV) had three hits on the night.

Davis Drives in Five

Madison Mallard catcher Adam Davis (Illinois) was a big part of the Mallard's offensive outburst Saturday in Waterloo. Davis was 3-for-5 with three runs scored and five RBI against the Waterloo Bucks. The catcher improved his average to .364 on the season and currently has 20 extra base hits.
