River Bats Release Names for Twins Alumni Game

The St. Cloud River Bats have announced the names of five players that will participate in the third annual Twin Alumni game on Aug. 28 at Joe Faber Field. Terry Steinbach, Juan Berenguer, Jarvis Brown, Al Newman and St. Cloud native Jim Eisenreich are slated to appear at the event.

The Alexandria Beetles knocked out 19 hits in the first game of the double header as they beat the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers 13-2 at Stewart C. Mills Field. The Beetles six batters with multi-hit games and were led by Marcus Semien (California Berkeley) and Jake Tanis (Mercer) who both had three hits and three RBI. Starting pitcher Kevin Vangheluwe (Michigan) earned his 3rd win in relief throwing 5.0 innings of one run baseball. The Lunkers had five defensive miscues in the loss.

Fuller Great in Relief

Trent Fuller of the La Crosse Loggers threw 6.2 innings in relief to help the Loggers beat the Waterloo Bucks’ Fuller only allowed one run on two hits while striking out nine in a 5-4 victory. The win marks the first for Fuller in 2010. He has pitched 17.1 innings and has 19 strikeouts for La Crosse. Corey Chaffins earned the win for Battle Creek as he led them to a 4-2 victory over Madison.

Putnam Has Big Night for Bullfrogs

Daniel Putnam had a big day at the plate for the Green Bay Bullfrogs as they beat the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters 13-2. The Bullfrog leadoff hitter was 4-for-5 on the night with two RBI. Putnam is currently hitting .381 on the season. Matt Dittman (Illinois) also had four hits as he led the Rochester Honkers to a 11-2 win over the Willmar Stingers.

NWL Games-Tuesday Night

The Green Bay Bullfrogs took game one of the double header 13-2 in Wisconsin Rapids thanks to 17 hits on the night. Leadoff hitter Daniel Putnam had four hits to pace Green Bay while Joel Hutter (Dallas Baptist) had two hits and drove in three runs. Riley Tincher (Wisconsin Whitewater) earned the win throwing 5.0 innings of two-hit baseball. Brian Embery (Wayland Baptist) homered in the loss for the Rafters.

Odom Owns Border Cats

Logan Odom (Southern California) earned his fourth win of the season as the Mankato MoonDogs beat the Thunder Bay Border Cats 4-1 in front of 1,211 fans. Odom threw a three hitter over 7.1 innings while striking out nine and only allowing one earned run. The righty has an ERA of 2.47 in 54.2 innings pitched while striking out 55. Lindsey Caughel of the Beetles also threw well in a 6.0 inning one hitter.

Kuhn Sets Tone for Green Bay

Green Bay Bullfrog center fielder Collin Kuhn (Arkansas) was a perfect 3-for-3 in Monday night’s game against Wisconsin Rapids Rafters. Kuhn knocked in two runs and scored two more to pace the offense in a 7-4 victory. The Beaver Dam, WI native is currently hitting .247 with ten extra base hits and eleven RBI. Adam Davis (Illinois) of the Madison Mallards had three hits and drove in four in a victory over Battle Creek.

The Green Bay Bullfrogs took game one of the doubleheader 7-4 due to two big innings. The Bullfrogs center fielder Collin Kuhn (Arkansas) was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI. Green Bay’s pitching staff combined to throw a four hitter over the final 4.1 innings. The Bullfrogs touched up Rafter’s starting pitcher Kyle Anderson (California Poly San Louis Obispo) for six runs on eleven hits in just 3.1 innings.

Shellhorn Throws No-Hitter

Rusty Shellhorn (Washington State) of the Madison Mallards threw the first no-hitter in Mallards franchise history. Shellhorn’s no-hitter was the 13th in Northwoods League history. The lefty struck out eight Wisconsin Rapids Rafters in a 4-0 victory. Shellhorn’s no-hitter was the first of the 2010 season in the Northwoods League. Shellhorn is currently 3-3 with a 2.04 ERA in 53.0 innings pitched.

Mueller Paces Loggers

Tony Mueller (Winona State) of the La Crosse Loggers had a great day at the plate in helping the Loggers beat the Eau Claire Express 8-6 in front of 3,316 fans. Mueller was 3-for-5 on the night with two RBI and a run scored. The 2010 NWL All-Star South Division starting pitcher also stole his 22nd base of the season which is tied for third in the NWL. Mueller is currently hitting .289 in 159 at-bats with a .353 on-base percentage.
