BATTLE CREEK, MI— The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders comebacks weren’t enough against the Battle Creek Bombers. The Dock Spiders came from behind twice but the third time the Bombers took the lead was the dagger.
Jared Jones (Saint Xavier) got the start for the Dock Spiders and the Bombers struck for three runs in the first.
Cam McMillan (Vanderbilt) hit a solo home-run in the fourth to get the Dock Spiders on the board. Then in the fifth they struck for two more to tie the game.
The Bombers answered quickly with two more in the the bottom of the fifth to regain the lead. The Dock Spiders rallied again in the sixth to tie it up again at 5-5.
Tom Jager (Robert Morris) came in relief and the Bombers would not go down easy as they struck for three more in the seventh and held that lead for the final two frames.
The Dock Spiders went on to lose 8-5. They ended their four game road trip at 2-2.
Opening night is tomorrow night at Herr Baker Field at Marian University. First pitch scheduled for 6:35 PM CST.
