Zac Charbonneau – Field Manager


Zac Charbonneau returns as manager for the 2022 Dock Spiders season after spending the 2021 season as the Director of Player Personnel for the organization. 2022 marks his fifth year at the helm of the Dock Spiders, and his sixth with the organization. 

Charbonneau originally managed the franchise during its first four seasons from 2017 until 2020, compiling a record of 144-117, along with a 2018 Northwoods League title and a 2020 Wisconsin-Illinois Regional Pod title. 

In 2021, Charbonneau was a key figure in putting the Dock Spiders roster together.  The roster included 2021 Great Lakes Division Co-MVP Chandler Simpson and Northwoods League All-Star Jackson Loftin. The 2021 season saw the Dock Spiders win 40 games in a year for the first time in franchise history.

While managing the Dock Spiders, Charbonneau led the team to the playoffs in 2018 and 2020, winning a title in both years. During the span, the Dock Spiders never finished below .500, including a 2019 season that saw the team rattle off 22 second half wins en route to a 36-35 final record. 

During his tenure, the Dock Spiders are a staggering 5-1 in the playoffs, with the lone loss coming in game two of the 2018 Northwoods League Championship Series against the Duluth Huskies. Charbonneau has also featured 20 future MLB draftees on his roster, including current Miami Marlin Nick Fortes, who became the first Dock Spider to reach MLB and made his debut during the 2021 season.

Before the Dock Spiders, Charbonneau managed the Springfield Sliders of the Prospect League in 2016, winning a league-best 39 games, and taking home the 2016 Prospect League Manager of the Year Award. He also spent three years as the manager of the Des Plaines Patriots in the Metro Collegiate League of Illinois, spent time as a bench coach for the Slippery Rock Sliders and as an assistant for the Kenosha Kingfish in the Northwoods League.

Charbonneau has served as the head coach at Milwaukee Area Technical College since 2019. Previous stops have included serving as a pitching and catching coach at the College of Lake County, an assistant at Roosevelt University and his alma mata, Millikin University.

As a player, Charbonneau was a standout at Oak Forest High School in Oak Forest, Illinois. During his time at Oak Forest, he was a two-time captain of the Bengals. After he graduated high school in 2006, he played at Moraine Valley Community College, where he appeared in 22 games with a .273 average. He then transferred to Prairie State College in Chicago Heights, Illinois, where he served as a captain and was named to the 2008 All-Skyway Collegiate Conference second team and selected as the best defensive catcher in the conferee. His career was cut short due to injuries after transferring to Millikin University, a division three school.

Daniel Buratto – Pitching Coach

Daniel Buratto joins the Dock Spiders’ coaching staff for his first season. Buratto currently serves as the pitching coach for Santa Barbara City College.  Prior to starting his coaching career in 2022, he played for Bowling Green and Santa Barbara, graduating from Bowling Green in 2019. He appeared in 40 games over two years with the Falcons after three years at Santa Barbara. Buratto is a California native, growing up in Goleta, home to UC Santa Barbara. 

Tyler Caserta – Hitting Coach

Tyler Caserta joins the coaching staff from Santa Barbara City College, where he’s in his first year as a hitting coach. He previously served as an assistant with the Santa Barbara Foresters, and enters 2022 with over ten years of coaching experience. A three-year player at Central Connecticut State, he played professionally with the Bridgeport Bluefish of the Atlantic League in 2014 and 2017 and the New Hampshire Wild of the Empire League in 2016.
