TODAY’S STORYLINES
ROCK AROUND THE BLOCK: The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders travel to Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin for the first time this year to take on the Green Bay Rockers in the first of two games split between Capital Credit Union Park and Herr-Baker Field. The Dock Spiders opened the season with two dominant wins against the Wausau Woodchucks, scoring 21 runs and drawing 20 walks. Green Bay, meanwhile, split their first two games with the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters, falling 3-0 on Tuesday night in their home opener.
LET’S GO FOR A WALK: The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders used 12 walks, five Wausau Woodchuck errors and seven hits to win 10-2 in their first road game of the season. The Dock Spiders used another massive sixth and seventh inning, scoring nine runs and sending 20 hitters to the plate. On the pitching side, Stephen Schissler became the first Dock Spider to appear as a pitcher and designated hitter in the same game. He threw three shutout innings with three strikeouts while tallying a multi-hit day with two stolen bases.
TAKING ALL THE WAY: Through the first two games, the Dock Spiders have seen 361 pitches, an average of 21.2 pitchers per inning. On Tuesday, Fond du Lac saw 192 pitches, over 50 pitches more than an average MLB team would throw in a nine-inning game. They worked 20 walks and were hit three times at the plate during the opening two games. Dock Spiders shortstop Alejandro Macario is tied for the Northwoods League lead with four walks.
RUNNING LIKE THE WIND: After shattering the Northwoods League record with 235 stolen bases in 2021, the Dock Spiders already lead the league with seven through their first two games. On Tuesday in Wausau, the Dock Spiders stole five bases, including two by Nick Mitchell and Alejandro Macario. Macario stole second and third in the first inning, setting the stage for an RBI groundout to bring home the first run of the ballgame. Macario is tied with Luke Santori (Kokomo) for the league lead with four stolen bases.
BRAND NEW HEIGHTS: Luke Novitske tied his career-high with three RBI on Tuesday night against Wausau. After a line-drive to left was snagged on a dive by Lenny Ashby, Novitske reached base in his next four plate appearances. He drew three walks and lined a single to left to drive home two in the sixth. It was the first time Novitske had driven in three in a game since March 27, 2022 when Cal State-East Bay played San Francisco State.
