FOND DU LAC, WI – The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders (12-12) finish up their five game road trip at Athletic Park against the Wausau Woodchucks (13-13). Both teams are currently tied for second place in the Great Lakes West Division. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m., with coverage beginning at 5:50 on the Dock Spiders Radio Network.

TODAY’S STORYLINES

WE MEET AGAIN: The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders and Wausau Woodchucks will meet for the first time since the Woodchucks took two straight against the Dock Spiders on June 12-13. Both teams are tied for second in the Great Lakes West Division, 9.5 games behind the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters. The Woodchucks have won three straight, outscoring their opponents 22-7 over that span. The two have split their games at Athletic Park this year, with the Dock Spiders winning 10-2 and the Woodchucks winning 7-3. 

SPLITTING THE SERIES: The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders scored seven of the final nine runs against the Kalamazoo Growlers to take the series finale 11-8 at Homer Stryker Field on Friday night. Grant Hussey tallied a career-high six RBI and three extra-base hits in the win. The Dock Spiders were hit a season-high eight times and drew eight walks. On the pitching side, Alex Vera, Luke Vaks and Garrett Houston combined to shutout the Growlers over the final five innings, striking out nine while allowing just two hits.

GRANT DOES IT AGAIN: Grant Hussey was named Northwoods League Player of the Night on Friday after a career-high six RBI with a home run against the Growlers. Hussey’s tallied three home runs this week to lead the Dock Spiders. Over the last four games, he’s gone 5-15 with two doubles, three home runs and eight RBI. Hussey became the third different Dock Spider to be named Player of the Night, joining Nick Mitchell (May 30) and David Hagaman (June 9).

AGAINST THE WOODCHUCKS: Over the first four games at the Woodchucks, the Dock Spiders have scored 30 runs, an average of 7.5 per game. Nick Mitchell is hitting 7-16 (.438) against the Woochucks with two extra-base hits. Evan Stone is also hitting above .400, going 8-17 (.471) with two stolen bases. On the pitching side, the Dock Spiders have struck out 36 Woodchucks, while issuing just 16 walks.

THE HOT BAT: In the last five games, both Daylen Reyes and Grant Hussey have been massive parts of the Dock Spiders offense. The two combined are hitting .361 (13-36) with four home runs and 11 RBI. Reyes is currently riding a four game hitting streak, with two multi-hit games. He’s tallied a hit in seven of his nine appearances this summer.

TODAY’S STARTING PITCHING MATCH-UP

RHP KENNY CAMPBELL (FDL): Campbell makes his first start since the 2018 season with Lafayette. Over his two years with the Leopards, he made 13 starts, but hasn’t made a start in his 16 appearances since.

RHP DANTE CHIRICO (WAU): Chirico makes his third start against the Dock Spiders this year, and his first since he threw four shutout innings on June 13 against Fond du Lac. In his last start, he allowed five runs in two innings to Lakeshore, but had allowed one in his previous 13 innings prior to the appearance.
