TODAY’S STORYLINES

BACK ON THE ROAD: After returning home for a single game on Sunday, the Dock Spiders travel to Capital Credit Union Park to take on the Green Bay Rockers. It’s the first time the two teams have met since June 9, when they met at Neuroscience Group Field in Appleton, Wisconsin for the inaugural I-41 Showdown. This year, the Dock Spiders have taken three of four from the Rockers, including a comeback 15-9 win in the only game at Green Bay.

THE BIG DAY: Led by Cole Messina’s career-high seven RBI, the Fond du lac Dock Spiders beat the Wausau Woodchucks at home, 14-4, on Sunday afternoon to win their third straight game. The 10-run win was the largest by the Dock Spiders since June 16, 2022, when they defeated the Madison Mallards 15-2 in game one of a doubleheader. The Dock Spiders scored all 14 runs by the end of the fifth inning, which included a seven-run fourth when the Dock Spiders sent 11 men to the plate. On the mound, Stephen Schissler set a new career-high with 5.1 innings, allowing just two runs. With the win, the Dock Spiders stay in second place in the Great Lakes West Division, while the Woodchucks fell into a tie for fourth.

FIRST HALF WRAPS: The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters officially clinched the Great Lakes West Division First Half title with a win on Sunday against Green Bay. The Dock Spiders can still qualify for the playoffs by winning the second half, which starts on July 6. The Rafters will meet the second half division winner in the Great Lakes Sub-Divisional Series.

THE RECENT TRACK: Since losing four straight, the Dock Spiders have score 28 runs over their last three games to win three in a row, including Sunday’s 14-4 win over the Woodchucks. Over that span, the Dock Spiders have outscored their opponents by 14 runs and have allowed an average of 4.7 runs per game while scoring 9.3 runs per game. The Dock Spiders have also tallied 10 extra-base hits and two home runs during the winning streak.

HOMERS AT HOME: With a three-run home run on Sunday, Cole Messina became the first Dock Spider since Tim Elko in 2020 to hit two home runs at Herr-Baker Field in a single season, and the seventh Dock Spider in franchise history to hit the mark. Brandon Wulff and Eric Gilgenbach hold the single-season record with four home runs at home. Both were set during the 2017 season.

NOLAND’S BACK: Since joining the Dock Spiders on Saturday night, Parker Noland has picked up right where he left off after he was named a 2020 Northwoods League Post-Season All-Star. The returning Dock Spider has already tallied two multi-hit games, adding to his nine multi-hit games from the 2020 season.

TODAY’S STARTING PITCHING MATCH-UP

LHP AUSTIN WAGNER (FDL): Wagner makes his fifth start of the year after he tossed a season-high 6.1 innings in his last start against Madison. The Fond du Lac native is the only qualified pitcher in the NWL to not surrender a walk this year.

RHP WILL SEMB (GB): Semb is set to make his first home start of the summer. He faced the Dock Spiders on June 9 in Appleton, taking the loss after he allowed one earned run over six innings. He’s thrown at least six innings in two of his four starts.
