FOND DU LAC, WI – Nick Mitchell (Western Illinois) and Grant Hussey (West Virginia) were both selected to the 2022 Northwoods League All-Star Game held at Witter Field in Wisconsin Rapids on Tuesday, July 19, 2022.
Mitchell and Hussey become the 10th and 11th Dock Spiders in franchise history (since 2017) to be selected as mid-season all-stars.
Mitchell is tied for seventh among all qualified hitters in the Northwoods League with a .362 average and is one of five players hitting above .360 with at least 10 stolen bases. Coming into today, Mitchell has tallied five straight multi-hit games, with a team-leading 14 on the year. He was named second-team All-Summit League this past spring at Western Illinois after hitting a team-best .342, and was one of 20 NCAA Division One players to steal at least 30 bases.
West Virginia first baseman Grant Hussey is currently tied for the team lead with three home runs. Hussey tallied a career-high six RBI with three extra-base hits on June 24 at the Kalamazoo Growlers. He has also notched nine multi-hit games, second on the Dock Spiders behind Mitchell. This spring, Hussey led all Big 12 freshmen with 12 home runs.
The Dock Spiders return home on Saturday, July 9 for a game against the Lakeshore Chinooks, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. The first 500 fans will receive a pair of Dock Spiders socks courtesy of Silica For Your Home, and all kids can run the bases after the game presented by Grande Cheese and A&W with a player high-five line and a treat from A&W. One lucky fan will also win a free GE kitchen package, including an oven, refrigerator, microwave and dishwasher.
