FOND DU LAC, WI – The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders broke their four-game losing streak in record-setting fashion as they beat the Madison Mallards 19-7 at Herr-Baker Field on Tuesday night. The 19 runs scored by the Dock Spiders broke their previous record of 18 set on July 10, 2019 against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters.

The 19 runs scored are also the sixth time in the last 11 games that the Dock Spiders scored at least 10 runs. The Dock Spiders also set season-highs in runs (19) and hits (20).

With the win, the Dock Spiders improved to 23-19 and 4-4 in the second half. Madison fell to 20-23, 2-5 in the second half.

Six different Dock Spiders tallied a multi-hit game, including Nick Mitchell (Western Illinois), Evan Smith (West Virginia), Jackson Loftin (Oral Roberts), Cole Messina (South Carolina), Daylen Reyes (UCLA) and Tyeler Hawkins (Louisville). Smith also tied his career-high with four RBI.

On the mound, Luke Vaks (3-0, College of Charleston) earned the win after three shutout innings with five strikeouts to improve his team-best scoreless streak to 18 consecutive innings. The appearance also lowered his ERA to a team-best 0.87. Bryce Leedle (0-1, St. Thomas) took the loss for Madison.

The Dock Spiders got on the board in the first off a sacrifice fly from Grant Hussey (West Virginia). The Mallards would respond with two in the second before the Dock Spiders scored 13 unanswered runs, including seven in the fourth inning, to take a 14-2 lead.

The Dock Spiders would tie the game on a wild pitch in the third before they recorded seven runs on just four hits in the fourth inning. Nick Mitchell, Grant Hussey, Brendan Comia (Illinois), Kemp Alderman (Ole Miss) and Cole Messina all tallied an RBI in the inning, with Alderman being the only one to tally multiple RBI off a double to the wall in right.

In the sixth, the Dock Spiders would continue the offensive output with five more runs, including a two-run triple from Tyeler Hawkins and a two-run home run from Evan Smith.

The eighth inning would then feature 10 combined runs, with five from each side. After the Mallards tallied five in the top of the inning, the Dock Spiders put up five more to break the franchise record. Smith started the scoring with his second two-RBI hit of the night before Loftin single home another. Jack O’Dowd (Texas) and Garrett Cutting (Oregon) would each bring a run home to finish out the scoring.

The two teams will meet for the final time in Madison tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 12:35 p.m.
