FOND DU LAC, WI – The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders put the tying run on base in the ninth inning, but Jaxson Meyer (Williston State College) struck out the go-ahead run to clinch an 8-6 Green Bay Rockers win on Tuesday night at Capital Credit Union Park in Green Bay.

The win was the 10th of the half for the Rockers, who improved to 20-32 overall with the win, 10-7 in the second half. The Dock Spiders fell to 27-26 overall and 8-11 on the half. The loss dropped the Dock Spiders into fourth overall in the division, a game behind the Lakeshore Chinooks and Wausau Woodchucks.

The game featured eight combined home runs, the most in a Dock Spiders game this year. The Rockers hit six while the Dock Spiders hit two.

The Dock Spiders struck first in the second inning with a solo shot from Evan Smith (West Virginia) and an RBI single to the wall from Andrew Sojka (CSUN). The hit extended his hit streak to 13 consecutive games. The Rockers would strike back with seven unanswered runs, including five home runs between the second and third innings. In the third, six straight Rockers would reach base, including home runs from Griffin Stevens (Tiffin), Keniel De Leon (LIU), and JP Gauthier (Illinois State). Matt Scannell (Princeton) led the charge for the Rockers with three home runs to cap off a 4-4 night.

In the seventh, the Dock Spiders would start the comeback with a run from an error before Scannell smashed his third home run of the night to put the Rockers up 8-3. In the ninth, the Dock Spiders would get two runners on before Bennett Thompson (Oregon) smashed a ball over the wall in right field to cut the deficit to 8-6. The following two batters would walk before Meyer struck out Tyeler Hawkins (Louisville) to end the threat and earn his first save of the year.

Austin Vandenbrink (1-0, Murray State) took the win while Tyler Tornberg (2-2, Rutgers) was tabbed with the loss.

The Dock Spiders return home tomorrow morning to take on the Madison Mallards in a day-night doubleheader. Game one is scheduled for 11:35 a.m., and game two is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Both games are scheduled for nine innings. Tomorrow’s games are part of Bang for Your Buck presented by Brew Pub Pizza.
