FOND DU LAC, WI – The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders (27-26, 8-11) return home for a day-night doubleheader against the Madison Mallards (23-31, 5-13) at Herr-Baker Field. Game one is slated to start at 11:35 a.m., and game two is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Today’s games are part of Bang for Your Buck presented by Brew Pub Pizza. Fans can enjoy hot dogs, Brew Pub Pizza slices, 16 oz. Pepsi products, and 16 oz. domestic beers (for those of legal drinking age) for $2 each.

TODAY’S STORYLINES

YOU’RE A THIEF OF BASES: With a stolen base from OF Evan Smith in the fifth inning of Tuesday’s game at Green Bay, the Dock Spiders hit the 100 stolen-base mark in a season for the second time in franchise history (since 2017). Before the 2021 season, when the Dock Spiders stole 235 bases, a Northwoods League record, their previous franchise record was just 83. Over the past two seasons, the Dock Spiders have swiped 335 bases, compared to 301 over the first four seasons of the franchise. During that span, INF Jackson Loftin (62) has tallied the most stolen bases, while INF Chandler Simpson (55) has the second most.

DOUBLING UP (AGAIN): Today’s doubleheader marks the second in four days for the Dock Spiders to finish a stretch that sees them play six games in four days, Both ends of today’s doubleheader are scheduled for nine innings. In three doubleheaders this year, the Dock Spiders have split once and been swept twice, with their only win coming in a 15-2 win in game one of their doubleheader in Madison against the Mallards on June 16.

HOMER HAPPY: Tuesday’s game against the Green Bay Rockers saw a season-high eight combined home runs. On offense, the Dock Spiders tallied two homers, their most in a game since three on July 11 at Wisconsin Rapids. OF Evan Smith smashed his second homer of the year at Capital Credit Union Park, and C Bennett Thompson hit his first homer of the summer in the ninth to bring the Dock Spiders within two. Of the eight combined home runs, seven were hit to right, which is the shortest porch in the Northwoods League at 282 feet.

THE NEW FACES: RHP Connor McKenna made his return to the Dock Spiders on Tuesday night after he threw 53 innings with the team during the 2021 season. The righty struck out three in a 16-pitch first inning against the Rockers. 

TODAY’S STARTING PITCHING MATCH-UP (GAME 1)

RHP LOGAN TABELING (FDL) will make his first start of the summer in game one after he made two starts this summer with the Danbury Westerners in the NECBL. In his last start with Danbury, he went five innings, struck out four, and only allowed an unearned run. Tabeling is set to join Illinois in the fall after two years at Wright State.

LHP DREW ERDEI (MAD) will make his third appearance and second start of the summer in the morning half of the doubleheader. Last time out, he allowed seven runs on seven hits at Green Bay.

TODAY’S STARTING PITCHING MATCH-UP (GAME 2)

RHP TREY SEELEY (FDL) will make his third start of the summer after a relief appearance on Monday against Green Bay. The Cypress righty has gone multiple innings in three of his last six appearances, and is set to make his first start against the Mallards this year.

LHP ALEX HAYES (MAD) is set to make his first start of the summer season. The Madison College product made his only appearance on July 23 at Wisconsin Rapids. He allowed four runs over 1.1 innings.
