FOND DU LAC, WI – The Dock Spiders dropped their fourth straight game to the Lakeshore Chinooks at home on Sunday afternoon. The Dock Spiders got through a clean top of the first inning but were retired in 1-2-3 fashion in the bottom of the first. When it rains, it pours. All of the sudden, the weather decided to make its presence felt as rain poured down and lightning in the area forced a delay. After a 25-minute delay, both teams took to the field again. In the top of the third, the Chinooks ambushed Dock Spiders starting pitcher Mason Hill (Aquinas College) which led to five runs being put up. The Dock Spiders answered in the bottom of the inning, scoring one run on an RBI single from designated hitter Connor Cooney (Holy Cross) that scored first baseman Seth Sweet-Chick (Nevada) which made the score 5-1 in favor of the Chinooks.

The Chinooks offense struck again in the top of the fifth as a single from Will Johannes (Madison College) scored centerfielder Avery Owusu-Asiedu (Southern Illinois-Evansville) and then another single from Brady Counsell (Minnesota) scored catcher Will Johannes (Madison College) which made the score 7-1 Chinooks and after another run in the top of the sixth, the Chinooks had a comfortable lead as the game headed into the late innings. The Dock Spiders started to mount a comeback in the bottom of the bottom of the seventh as a leadoff double from catcher Paul Smith (Rice) and a single from Seth Sweet-Chick set the Dock Spiders up in prime position to put some runs on the board and they did just that as Connor Cooney flied out right field that scored Smith which made the score 8-2. In the top of the ninth, the Chinooks scratched one more run across, but the Dock Spiders weren’t ready to give up yet. A two RBI single from Connor Cooney scored Smith and Sweet-Chick which made the score 9-4. Then a groundout, hit by second basemen Luke Novitske (Cal State East Bay) brought Graiden West (Rice) across the plate for the fifth run of the day. The Dock Spiders couldn’t produce any more than that as they fell to the Chinooks 9-5.

The Dock Spiders will be back in action tomorrow night in Green Bay as they take on the Rockers. First pitch is set for 6:35 P.M.
