FOND DU LAC, WI – The Dock Spiders notched their second shutout win of the season on Thursday night as they bested the Chinooks 3-0. The Dock Spiders got the party started early as they scored one run in the bottom of the first. An RBI single by third basemen Jake Surane (Wisconsin-Oshkosh) scored Connor Cooney (Holy Cross) and gave the Dock Spiders a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the second, a balk committed by Chinooks starting pitcher Matthew Mueller (Gonzaga) scored Seth Sweet-Chick (Nevada) which made the lead 2-0. Dock Spiders starting pitcher Joseph Chavana (Trinity) settled in and shoved for seven innings of four hit ball. Chavana also tallied seven strikeouts on the night. In the bottom of the seventh, the Dock Spiders struck again as Jake Surane registered another RBI single that scored Cooney and gave the Dock Spiders a 3-0 lead. From that point on, it was up to the bullpen as Kade Walker (Cuesta) came in and struck out one Chinook and then Eric Sipling (Rochester Institute of Technology) was brought in for the top of the ninth. Sipling retired the Chinooks in order which ended the game.
Dock Spiders starter Joseph Chavana received the win, his third of the season, while Chinooks starter Matthew Mueller was tagged with his second loss of the season. Eric Sipling received his first save of the season. The Dock Spiders improve to 22-31 on the season, 9-9 in the second half. The Dock Spiders will be back in action tomorrow night at Kapco Park as they take on the Chinooks. First pitch is at 6:35 P.M.
