Offense Propels Dock Spiders in Win, 13-3

FOND DU LAC, WI – An offensive explosion on Friday night allowed the Dock Spiders to take game one of a two-game series over reigning Northwoods League Champions Green Bay Rockers, 13-3. The Dock Spiders moved to 2-3 on the season and won their first game at home of the year as Green Bay dropped to 1-4 overall.

The Dock Spiders took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning and kept the lead until a home run in the third inning by Jake Bold (Princeton) in his first game with Green Bay tied the game at two.

In the bottom of the third inning, the Dock Spiders would get the lead back with a two-run single from Zack Taylor (Wisconsin-Oshkosh) which made the score 4-2, and a single by Jake Surane (Wisconsin-Oshkosh) drove in a run to increase the lead to 5-2.

Left-handed pitcher David Dean got the start for the Dock Spiders going 3.1 innings and allowed four hits, two earned runs, and struck out three batters. He was relieved by Noah Tschopp (1-0) who picked up the win for Fond du Lac in relief going 3.2 innings, and allowed one hit, no earned runs, and struck out three batters.

Zach Taylor hit his first home run in the fifth to extend the Dock Spiders lead to 6-2. Green Bay would get a run back in the top of the sixth to make the score 6-3. The Dock Spiders would get the run back in the bottom half of the sixth inning with an RBI sac fly from Drew Barragan (Embry-Riddle) scoring Parker Knoll (Lawrence) to increase the lead to 7-3.

In the seventh, The Dock Spiders would break the door loose bringing ten to the plate scoring four runs increasing the lead to 11-3. The Dock Spiders would add two more in the eighth inning and win the first game of the series 13-3.

Game three of the Dock Spiders’ four-game homestand is set for tomorrow against the Green Bay Rockers.  The first pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. Saturday is also the first Kids the Bases at Herr-Baker Field after the game presented by Grande Cheese and A&W.
