FOND DU LAC, WI – The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders fell to the Minnesota Mud Puppies at Herr-Baker Field, snapping a seven-game home winning streak.
The game featured four scoreless innings before the Dock Spiders broke through in the bottom of the fifth on a Tommy Googins single and a Ben Kuglitsch RBI double. The Mud Puppies answered by scoring four consecutive runs to take a 4-2 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh.
In the seventh, Patrick Graham plated Ben Kuglitsch to pull the Dock Spiders within one run. However, Fond du Lac was held scoreless the rest of the way, suffering its 15th one-run loss of the season.
The defeat snapped Fond du Lac’s seven-game home winning streak, its longest since the 2019 season.
The player of the night for the Dock Spiders was Ben Kasten, who tossed six innings while allowing just one hit and one run with two strikeouts.
Fond du Lac’s pitching staff recorded six strikeouts but issued six walks. Kasten and Mason Sommer combined for four of the team’s six punchouts.
Offensively, the Dock Spiders outhit the Mud Puppies 8-4 but were stifled by Minnesota’s pitching staff, which struck out nine. Second baseman Carter Christenson recorded a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Fond du Lac wraps up the season series against the Mud Puppies on Thursday before closing the regular season with a home-and-home set against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters.
The Dock Spiders return to Herr-Baker Field on Thursday for a 6:35 p.m. matchup against the Minnesota Mud Puppies. Thursday is Thirsty Thursday, presented by Fox River Brewing Company and 99.5 WPKR.
