FOND DU LAC, WI – The Dock Spiders used a six-run bottom of the third inning to beat the Chinooks 10-4 at home on Friday night. It was Lake Winnebago Shantymen Night at Herr-Baker Field. The Dock Spiders scored one run in the bottom of the first which gave them a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the third, the Dock Spiders loaded the bases with one out for Parker Knoll (Lawrence) and Knoll delivered a two RBI double that scored Connor Cooney (Holy Cross) and Jake Surane (Wisconsin-Oshkosh) which gave the Dock Spiders a 3-0 lead. The Dock Spiders tallied four more runs in the inning, capped off by an RBI single from Kelsen Johnson (St. Petersburg). The Chinooks responded in the top of the fourth as they scored two runs, but the Dock Spiders answered. In the bottom of the fifth, Seth Sweet-Chick scored while Kelsen Johnson was caught in a run down. The Chinooks tallied two more runs down the stretch, but a two-run bottom of the eighth inning from the Dock Spiders, capped off by a two RBI single from Connor Cooney, solidified the victory.
Dock Spiders starter Mason Weckler (Wisconsin-Stevens Point) received the win, his second of the season as he hurled five innings of three run ball. Chinooks starter Gradin Taschner (Illinois State) was tagged with his second loss of the season. The Dock Spiders improved to 25-33 on the season, 12-11 in the second half. The Dock Spiders will be back in action tomorrow night at Warner Park as they take on the top team in the Great Lakes West Division, the Madison Mallards. First pitch is slated for 6:35 PM.
