WAUSAU, WI— The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders (4-2) and the Wisconsin Woodchucks (3-3) go down to the wire. The Dock Spiders couldn’t hold on to their late lead and the Woodchucks walk it off.
Aaron Funk (Arkansas Little-Rock) got the start after his last outing against the Woodchucks where he went seven innings of one run baseball. This time wasn’t so great.
He would only last four and a third before getting pulled after giving up his third run of the game. The Woodchucks would hold a one run lead into the fifth before the bats came alive.
Duncan Hunter (Jacksonville) had himself a night and delivered an RBI single to tie the game up in the fifth.
It was Otto Grimm (Minnesota) who would break out with a clutch double to give the Dock Spiders the lead 2-1. But the Woodchucks would answer back later that inning and re-take the lead 3-2.
The Dock Spiders didn’t quit as they rallied in the seventh. After a two run blast by Hunter to give them a 4-3 lead, it was Luke Robinson (Western Carolina) to give the Dock Spiders an insurance run in the eighth.
After taking a 5-3 lead into the ninth, the Dock Spiders would run into trouble. The Woodchucks would load the bases up and rally for three.
An errant hop on a ground ball for a potential double play ball. Followed by a walk to score the tying run and then a hit batter to walk it off for the Woodchucks.
The Dock Spiders are back home tomorrow night against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters at 6:35 PM CST. It’s “Christmas in July” at the ballpark.
