LOVES PARK, IL- The Rockford Rivets entered tonight’s game without hitting a home run this season. However, the Rivets changed that in a big way hitting for three home runs in the 7-3 Rivets victory.

For the second straight night, the Dock Spiders struck first. Fondy’s Eric Gilgenbach (Notre Dame) ripped an RBI double into the right-center alley to plate the first run of the game in the 4th inning. Two batters later, Gilgenbach came in to score on an error. It was 2-0 Dock Spiders.

Dock Spiders starting pitcher Jon Mierzwa (Catholic University of America) pitched into the 5th inning and gave up just one run (which scored after Mierzwa exited the game).

Following Mierzwa’s exit, the Rivets’ John Rave (Illinois State) would connect with the team’s first home run of the season giving Rockford a 3-2 lead.

Rockford cashed in for two more runs in the 6th inning with a sacrifice fly and an RBI single from Trevor Paradoski (Texas Tech). It was 5-2 Rivets after 6.

For the third straight inning, the Rivets scored multiple runs in the 7th. Back-to- back home runs from Zach Rheams (Texas Tech) and JC DeMuri (Quincy) made it a 7-2 Rivets lead.

Fondy would tack on an extra run in the 8th but fall 7-3. The Dock Spiders have now dropped seven straight games and drop to 3-9 on the season.

The Dock Spiders are headed to Mequon, Wisconsin for a date with the Lakeshore Chinooks tomorrow night at 5:05. Kyle Huckaby (Eastern Michigan) will be the starting pitcher for the Dock Spiders.
