Growlers get their first sweep of the doubleheader format

Kalamazoo, Mich., — The Kalamazoo Growlers took down the Kalamazoo Mac Daddies by a score of 7-2 in game one and 1-0 in game two. 

Game One

The runs started in the second inning for both teams as Alex Ludwick (Baldwin Wallace) lined a solo home run off starter Nate Wargolet (Grand Valley State University).

The Growlers came back in the bottom half on the inning with an RBI single by Cade Sammons (Ole Miss) to score Brett Barrera (Stanford)

Bats started churning in the next inning for Cody Piechocki’s ballclub as Blake Dunn (Western Michigan) reached on a bunt single and scored one batter later thanks to the first RBI and double by new Growler, Ryan Marra (Brown University). Marra would then score two batters later on an RBI single from Trent Quartermaine (Ball State). Quartermaine was driven in by Sammons to cap off the three-run inning. 

The Mac Daddies took one more in the fourth on an RBI single by Doug Propson (Kalamazoo College). 

More offense was generated in the bottom half by back-to-back walks by Dunn and Marra. Quartermaine then singled to load the bases. Dunn scored on a sacrifice fly by Barrera and two more runs were scored on a single by Ben Van Cleve (Ole Miss)

Wargolet (1-0) picked up his first win on three innings, four hits, one earned run and five strikeouts. Miguel Reyes Jr. was given the lose after 2.2 innings, allowing seven hits, three earned runs and five strikeouts. Andre Orselli (Ball State) picked up his first save as well.

Game Two

In a one-hour, twelve-minute second game, Chandler Schultz (Belmont University) notched his first win after a four-inning, two-hit and four-strikeout performance. Trey Nordmann (Howard College) earned his second save after capping off the fifth inning with three strikeouts. Mac Daddies starter, Dane Armbrustmacher (Western Michigan) received the loss after throwing three innings, allowing two hits and one earned run. He also struck out two Growlers.

The only run was scored in the third, after a two-out walk by Max Huntley (Western Michigan), who returned to the lineup after suffering an injury in the top of the first on opening day. Huntley scored on an RBI single from his Bronco teammate, Blake Dunn.

The Kalamazoo Growlers return to play tomorrow against the Battle Creek Bombers. Game one is at 2:30 p.m., game two at 5:15 p.m. and game three at 8:00 p.m.
