Homer Stryker Field
The Kalamazoo Growlers play 36 home games every summer at Homer Stryker Field at Kalamazoo’s Mayors’ Riverfront Park (251 Mills Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49048).
Homer Stryker Field seats over 3,500 fans. It originally opened in 1963 and has been home to two Frontier League teams, the Kalamazoo Kodiaks and the Kalamazoo Kings, as well as numerous youth, high school and collegiate tournaments.
The Growlers have continued to renovate Homer Stryker Field each offseason to create one of the most comfortable, unique and fan friendly ballparks in the country.
Some improvements include; adding the Miller Lite Trap in left field, the Bell’s Bear Cave in right field, the Home Plate Club located in the main grandstand along with an improved the sound system and concession outlets.
The Growlers play in the Northwoods League, a summer collegiate baseball league for players with remaining college eligibility. The Northwoods League features 26 teams, who are located throughout Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota and even Canada.
Hundreds of Northwoods League alumni have made it to the major leagues, including Jordan Zimmerman, Max Scherzer, Curtis Granderson, Andy Dirks, Drew Smyly and Chris Sale.
Each member of the Northwoods League will have their flag flying in the stands at Homer Stryker Field.
Ballpark Improvements & Renovations
Eaton Video Board Display
The brand new 20’x28′ Eaton LED Video Board was displayed at Homer Stryker Field.
The Kalamazoo City Commission approved the purchase of a LED video display board from Daktronics, splitting the cost with the Growlers.
With the video board also presented cameras, staff, additional equipment and an upgraded in-game entertainment experience for fans at all events in the ballpark.
The video board does not display any other advertising outside of the naming of the Eaton LED Video Board – one of the only of its kind in the industry.
Hockey Dasher Boards
The Northwoods League Foundation, the City of Kalamazoo and the Kalamazoo Growlers partnered to install a one of a kind accessible seating upgrade to Homer Stryker Field.
The improvement incorporated hockey dasher boards as the new barrier and backstop for the area behind home plate.
This added 82 accessible seats, an improved view for the entire home plate section, and add new field level seats called The Dugout Club & The Backstop.
The goal for the project was to provide access to our most premium areas of the ballpark that weren’t accessible in prior years.
Accessibility is a priority for the Growlers organization and the city of Kalamazoo and thankful for the Northwoods League Foundation made this commitment to the community.
