Looking back at our 20th season in 2022, we thought it would be a perfect time to take a trip down memory lane. It was very hard picking the best Loggers players, and we thank you for all of your help. Here’s to 20 more (& beyond) seasons of Louie Dogs, cold beer, and warm nights at the ballpark!

Year(s) Coached for Loggers: 2008-2012

Stats: Loggers all-time winningest manager (198-137), 2012 Northwoods League champion, only retired number to date (#6), 45 former Loggers were drafted during McKay’s tenure, including current big league pitcher Chris Sale (Red Sox).

University: UC Riverside

Year(s) Played for Loggers: 2009

Stats: 2009 Loggers Team MVP, led the NWL in hitting with a .346 average, Named NWL Top Prospect by Baseball America in 2009, Member of the Loggers All-Decade Team, 3rd Round Pick of the Detroit Tigers in 2010, has played in the big leagues with Miami Marlins, Chicago White Sox and is currently with the New York Yankees’ AAA squad.

University: California

Year(s) Played for Loggers: 2011

Stats: Only Logger to hit .400 in a single season when he did so in 2011; 2011 Loggers Team MVP, Loggers single season record holder in OPS (1.051), Member of the Loggers All-Decade Team, was tabbed a Top 5 NWL Prospect by both Baseball America and Perfect Game in 2011, 2nd Round Pick of the Philadelphia Phillies in 2013 and is currently with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

University: UCLA

Year(s) Played for Loggers: 2019

Stats: 2019 Loggers Team MVP, 2019 Rawlings Big Stick Award Winner, led the entire NWL with a .378 batting average.  His 74 hits that season rank 7th on the Loggers all-time single season list.  His .464 on-base percentage ranks second on the Loggers all-time single season list.  Drafted in the 4th Round of the 2021 MLB Draft by the New York Mets and is currently in their system.

University: William & Mary

Year(s) Played for Loggers: 2016

Stats: Co-Team MVP of the 2016 Loggers, Named a Rawlings “Big Stick” Award winner for top hitting second baseman in the NWL, hit .328 with a team-best 20 doubles and added four home runs and 38 RBI’s, walked 37 times and struck out only 16 times.  Was a 5th Round pick of the Toronto Blue Jays in 2017 and is currently with their AAA club.

University: Iowa

Year(s) Played for Loggers: 2015-16

Stats: 2015 NWL MVP, 2015 & 2016 Loggers Team MVP, 2015 & 2016 NWL All-Star,  NWL career leader in runs scored (137) and the single-season NWL record holder in hits (112), runs (80), total bases (168), at-bats (305) and games played (71).  McCoy also re-wrote the Loggers record as the everyday shortstop breaking nine single season marks and 13 different career records.  Was a 6th round pick of the Baltimore Orioles in 2017 and is currently a member of the Seattle Mariner’s AAA club.

University: South Florida

Year(s) Played for Loggers: 2017

Stats: 2017 Loggers Team MVP after hitting .312 with 15 doubles, 13 home runs, 49 RBI’s.  2017 Northwoods League/Rawlings Finest in the Field Award Winner and was a 2017 All-NWL Selection.  Was an 11th Round Pick of the San Francisco Giants in 2018.

University: William & Mary

Year(s) Played for Loggers: 2013

Stats: 2013 Loggers Team MVP, Single-Season Record-holder in home runs (18), RBI’s (55) and Slugging Percentage (.594), 2013 All-Northwoods League Post-Season Team Honoree.  Was a 9th Round selection of the New York Mets in 2014 and spent three seasons in their farm system.

University: California

Year(s) Played for Loggers: 2017-18

Stats: Played in 112 games over two seasons (2017-18) where he hit .275 with 26 doubles, 9 home runs with 74 RBI’s while stealing 15 bases.  Was a 2018 NWL Showcase Selection. 1st Round Pick of the Houston Astros in 2019 and is currently in their minor league system.

University: Minnesota

Year(s) Played for Loggers: 2020-21

Stats: Two-year starter for the Loggers (2020-2021) , 2021 Loggers team MVP and All-NWL Selection when he led the team in 10 different offensive categories.  Ranks 5th on the all-time career list with 72 RBI’s and is the all-time career leader in walks drawn with 70.

University: Cal St. Fullerton

Year(s) Played for Loggers: 2012

Stats: Member of the 2012 NWL Championship team, hit .279 with 13 doubles, 7 home runs, 30 RBI’s and 13 SB’s.  Was selected in the 1st Round of the 2014 MLB Draft by the Oakland A’s and won multiple Gold and Platinum Gloves with the A’s big league club. Now with the Toronto Blue Jays.

University: Pepperdine

Year(s) Played for Loggers: 2007

Stats: Member of the Loggers all-decade team, 2007 Loggers Team MVP, 2007 NWL mid-season and post-season all-star after hitting .301, with 13 doubles, 5 triples, 3 homers, 43 RBI’s and 15 Stolen Bases.  Was a 7th round selection of the Toronto Blue Jays in 2008, made his MLB debut with Toronto on May 18, 2011.  Was named MVP of the South Korean League in 2015 before spending three seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers (2017-2019) and one with the Washington Nationals (2020).

University: Long Beach State

Year(s) Played for Loggers: 2012

Stats: 2012 Loggers Team MVP, 2012 mid-season and post-season NWL All-Star when he hit .316 with 15 doubles, 11 home runs, 51 RBI’s and 21 stolen bases.  Was an 11th Round selection of the Colorado Rockies in 2014 where he spent 2 seasons in their farm system before playing two years in Indy Ball.

University: Butler

Year(s) Played for Loggers: 2018

Stats: 2018 Team MVP, hit .291 with 15 doubles, 12 home runs, 61 RBI’s including a Loggers all-time record 22-game hitting streak.  Freed’s 61 RBI’s is also a single-season record for the Loggers.  Drafted in the 13th Round of the 2019 MLB Draft by the San Francisco Giants.

University: Arizona

Year(s) Played for Loggers: 2019

Stats: The big left-hander showed impressive power in his lone season with the Loggers, hitting 13 home runs while adding 18 doubles with 53 RBI. His 31 extra-base hits is good for third all-time in Loggers single-season history, while his home run and doubles total are each tied for fourth. His .554 slugging percentage and .946 OPS also rank in the top five in the team’s single-season record books.  Holgate was a 2ndRound pick of the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2021 MLB Draft.

University: Missouri

Year(s) Played for Loggers: 2004

Stats: 2004 mid-season NWL All-Star, Member of the All-Decade Team, Competed for Team USA in 2005, was the first Logger to be selected in the first round when Arizona took him 11th overall in 2006, made his MLB debut on April 29, 2008 becoming the first Logger to make it to the Big Leagues.  Since that time, Scherzer has won 3 Cy Young Awards (1 in AL, 2 in NL), he became one of only six pitchers in the history of baseball to throw 2 no-hitters in the same season when he did so in 2015, he also tied a MLB single game record by striking out 20 batters on May 11, 2016.  Scherzer has been with 5 Major League clubs over his 12-year career including the Diamondbacks, Detroit Tigers, the Washington Nationals, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and now the New York Mets.  In 2021, he became one of only 19 pitchers in the history of baseball to record his 3,000th career strikeout.

University: UW-Milwaukee

Year(s) Played for Loggers: 2003-04

Stats: 2003-2004 NWL All-Star, 2004 Loggers Team MVP, member of the All-Decade Team, holds the Loggers single-season record for complete games (6) and is the career record-holder for wins (11), ERA (1.75), complete games (6), strikeouts (179), WHIP (1.00) and strikeouts/9 innings (10.24).  The Wisconsin native signed a free agent contract with the Milwaukee Brewers in July, 2004 and spent five seasons in their farm system.

University: Florida Gulf Coast

Year(s) Played for Loggers: 2008

Stats: 2008 mid-season NWL All-Star after striking out 74 batters in 53 innings, was a first round selection (13th Overall) of the Chicago White Sox in 2010 and became one of five players in the history of MLB to be called up to the Big Leagues later that year making his debut on August 6, 2010.  Since that time, Sale has been tabbed a MLB All-Star seven times and led the American League in strikeouts in 2015.  After spending his first seven seasons with the White Sox, Sale was traded to the Boston Red Sox.

University: Evansville

Year(s) Played for Loggers: 2004-05

Stats: 2004-2005 La Crosse Logger, 2005 mid-season and post-season NWL All-Star, member of the All-Decade Team, Loggers single-season record holder for games started (14), innings pitched (99.2) and strikeouts (92), Loggers career record holder in wins (11) and games started (26).  Was a 31st Round pick of the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2006 MLB Draft and spent three seasons in their farm system.

University: UW-Whitewater

Year(s) Played for Loggers: 207-09

Stats: Member of the 2007, 2008 & 2009 Loggers, Was a 2008 mid-season NWL All-Star, Member of the All-Decade Team, Tossed the only individual no-hitter in Loggers history on June 18, 2008, Compiled an 8-4 record with a 1.96 ERA over his three-year Logger career, striking out 101 batters in 120 innings pitched.  Was a 31st Round selection of the Tampa Bay Rays in 2009 and spent several seasons in both the Rays and Yankees farm system along with pitching in Independent Professional Baseball.

University: Long Beach State

Year(s) Played for Loggers: 2012-13

Stats: 2012-2013 La Crosse Logger, led the NWL in strikeouts in 2013 with 79, won 8 games over his 2-year career and struck out 100 batters in 100 innings.  Signed a free agent contract with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in 2014 and spent one year in their farm system and then spent one season pitching in Independent Professional Baseball.

University: Texas A&M – Corpus Christi

Year(s) Played for Loggers: 2012-13

Stats: Member of the 2012 NWL Champion Loggers and 2013 club, 2012 NWL mid-season All-Star, led the entire NWL in strikeouts that season as a reliever with 80 in 53.1 innings, Holds the Loggers single season mark for K’s/9 innings pitched (13.56), Signed a free agent contract with the Houston Astros in 2015.

University: Penn State

Year(s) Played for Loggers: 2019-21

Stats: The all-time saves leader (23), was a member of the 2019, 2020 and 2021 Loggers.
