La Crosse, Wis. – Wisconsin native Nick Kanavas, is returning for his second season in Logger green this summer. Nick graduated from Brookfield East High School in 2013. He is a political science major at the University of Arizona and is the son of Ted and Mary Kanavas.
Nick played in just six games for the Loggers last season. In those six game, he recorded six hits, including one home run. Kanavas was also able to add three RBI in his short tenure.
In high school, he hit .400 in conference play and .378 overall as a senior. Nick also only struck out twice, and earned 17 free passes. In 2013, he earned First-Team All-Greater Metro Conference, NOW Newspapers All-Suburban team, Rawlings/Perfect Game Preseason Central Region All High School Senior Second-Team and was listed as the number two overall recruit class for the state of Wisconsin by Perfect Game. In 2012, he was named a Perfect Game USA Preseason HS Underclassmen All American Honorable Mention. In his sophomore season, he recorded the final out of the sectional championship to help lead Brookfield East to its first state appearance since 1988. Nick also played soccer and baseball while being a member of the National Honor Society.
Getting to know Nick a little better, in his free time, Nick likes to play ping pong and go jet skiing. His father, Ted, played football at UW-Madison. Nick has two sisters, one older named Kelly, and one younger named Kate.
The Loggers open the season Tuesday, May 27 at Copeland Park against the Wisconsin Woodchucks at 7:05 p.m.
