The La Crosse Loggers won their second game in a row Wednesday night by defeating the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters 12-2 to kick off a two- game series on the road at Witter Field.
This one was scoreless until the fifth inning when the Loggers busted opened a four run inning. The inning was highlighted by a two run RBI single from shortstop Sulliam Rios Reyes (Kirkwood CC). The Loggers would then tack on three runs in the top of the sixth thanks in large part to a pair of RBI singles from center fielder Mike Nadratowski (Grand Valley State) and designated hitter Cameron Balough (Judson University).
Loggers' starter Ryan Deemes (Nicholls State) did exactly what the Loggers had hoped to do pitching into the seventh inning. Deemes final line read 6 1/3 innings pitched, allowing two runs (all earned), with five K's, and only one walk.
The Loggers would pad their lead in the eighth with five runs on seven hits to take the commanding lead.
Pitcher Nick Milligan (Western Illinois) came into pitch for the second consecutive night and got six of his eight outs through the strikeout.
The Loggers and Rafters will conclude their two-game series in Wisconsin Rapids on Thursday night with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05.
