The La Crosse Loggers pulled within 1/2 game of first place of the South division of the Northwoods League Saturday night by beating the Lakeshore Chinooks, 4-1 at Kapco Park in Mequon,

The game was the first of a four-game roadtrip for the Loggers.  The Loggers jumped the Chinooks in the process of their win Saturday night.  The Lumbermen have one more game with the fish Sunday afternoon, before they have a two-game series in Wisconsin Rapids against the Rafters.

The Loggers got an excellent performance from starter Grant Yost (Sacramento State CC). Yost's final line was six innings pitched, three hits, with one run (earned), with zero walks allowed, and five strikeouts.

La Crosse first got on the board in top of the third inning on a Ryne Birk (Texas A&M) bases clearing triple to score Ryan Kirby (San Diego), Aaron Knapp (Cal), and Nash Knight (Dallas Baptist).

The Lumbermen would add one more run in the eighth inning  on an RBI single by first basemen Marc Frazier (Nicholls State) to score Mike Nadratowski (Grand Valley State).

Closer Breckin Williams (Missouri)  would come on to close it out for the Loggers and secure the win for his fifth save in the ninth inning.

The Loggers and Chinooks conclude their series Sunday evening at Kapco Park.  First pitch is scheduled for 5:05.
