The La Crosse Loggers are two games back heading into the final day of the first half of the Northwoods League following a 5-3 victory in Battle Creek against the Bombers.  The Loggers and the rest of the Northwoods League will play a doubleheader Monday.  The Loggers will play the first game of the doubleheader at noon against the Madison Mallards at Warner Park, and then the two teams will travel to La Crosse and play the second game at 7:05 at Copeland Park.  The Lakeshore Chinooks are two games ahead of the Loggers and will play their doubleheader Monday against the Kenosha Kingfish.

The Loggers got out to a big lead against the Bombers, Sunday evening, by scoring three runs in the top of the first inning.  Kevin Zak (Grand Valley State) would double home his college teammate Mike Nadratowski (Grand Valley State) to plate the Lumbermen's first run.  Catcher Austin Rei (Washington) would single home Zak, and Rei would then score on a single by designated hitter, Luke Persico (UCLA).

The Loggers would extend their lead to a 5-0 in the third when Rei would double home Nadratowski.  Third basemen Jerrod Bravo (Sacramento City CC) would then score Zak on a sacrifice fly.

Loggers starter, Kevin Roy (Columbia), put together another good start to earn the win.  The Houston, TX native, pitched six innings, allowing two run (earned), on six hits, while walking one, and striking out six.  Roy is now 3-0 on the year with a 1.17 ERA.  Jacob Dorris (Texas A&M Corpus Christi) pitched two innings of relief before Breckin Williams (Missori) came on for his ninth save.

The Loggers were able to even up the two-game series after their worst loss of the season Saturday night, 15-1.
