The La Crosse Loggers were swept in a home and home doubleheader to close out the 1st half of the Northwoods League by the Madison Mallards.  In the process, the Loggers finished in second place in the South Division behind the Lakeshore Chinooks.  Lakeshore automatically clinched a spot in the Northwoods League Playoffs come August by finishing first.

Game 1:

The Loggers only notched three hits against Madison pitching and only managed one run when Ryan Kirby (San Diego) scored on a wild pitch in the top of the second inning.  The game was tied 1-1 in the fifth when Mallards right fielder, Alex Bacon (North Florida), scored on an RBI single by DH, Pete Alonso (Florida).  Loggers starter, Adam Cline (Columbia), pitched well allowing two runs (one earned), on six hits, with two strikeouts, in six innings but took the loss.

Game 2:

La Crosse got on the board first on a Jack Meggs (Washington) solo home run in the bottom of the first inning.  Madison would take the lead in the top of the second however on solo home runs from Alonso, and Brian Rodemoyer (Illinois State).  La Crosse would trail 4-1, when they would attempt a comeback in the bottom of the fourth inning when Kevin Zak (Grand Valley State) scored on a passed ball, and Kirby would hit an RBI single to score Ryne Birk (Texas A&M).  But the Madison pitching was able to hold down the fort, and not allow a run in the final five innings to preserve the win.

La Crosse finishes the first half with a 21-14 record.  The Loggers will begin the second half by welcoming the Green Bay Bullfrogs to Copeland Park, Wednesday to open a two-game series.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
