The Loggers fell to the Kalamazoo Growlers Friday night, in the two team's last meeting of the year, by a final score of 7-4. La Croose had their back against the wall from the get-go as they faced one the league's toughest pitchers in Ryan Smoyer (Notre Dame). Smoyer on the year is 8-1 with a 2.00 ERA. The Loggers, however, roughed him up, as Smoyer only lasted five innings allowing four runs (three earned) on ten hits.
La Crosse got three-hit games from Mitch Bevacqua (Washington) and Brody Weiss (UC-Santa Barbara). Ryne Birk (Texas A&M) and Kevin Zak (Grand Valley State) both added two hits a piece as well.
The Growlers tagged La Crosse starter Adam Cline (Columia), for seven runs (five earned) on nine hits in five and one-third innings. Reliever, Jameson Sadowske (UW-La Crosse) threw well allowing just two hits in two and two-thirds scoreless innings.
The Loggers will return home to wrap up the 2014 season as they host the Lakeshore Chinooks Saturday and Sunday from Copeland Park. First pitch Saturday is scheduled for 6:05.
