Green Bay, WI – The La Crosse Loggers scored four times in the first two frames on Tuesday night en route to a 2015 opening night 4-1 victory over the Green Bay Bullfrogs at Joannes Stadium in Green Bay, Wisc.
The visiting Loggers wasted no time going to work when Mason McCoy (Iowa) led of the game with single and stole second. Two batters later Jordan Zimmerman (Michigan State) singled up the middle to drive in McCoy for the first run of the game. The Lumbermen continued in the second inning, sending three more runners across home plate on four hits to race out to an early 4-0 lead.
Loggers starter Ben Ritchey (UC-Irvine) took over from their, limiting the Bullfrogs to just one run on six hits over five innings to earn the victory. The former Sac City right-hander also fanned six and worked out of a bases loaded, no-out jam in the fifth to preserve the lead.
La Crosse's bullpen picked up right where Ritchey left off with Jake Fromson (MIssouri State) tossing a pair of scoreless innings and Liam Carter (Missouri) keeping the Frogs quiet over the final two frames to earn the save.
McCoy and Troy Traxler (Minnesota) paced the Loggers offense with two hits apiece while Graham Spraker (Quincy University) drove in a pair.
The same two teams will do battle again on Wednesday night at Joannes Stadium. Air time on the Logger Radio Network is 6:00 p.m. with a 6:35 p.m. first pitch scheduled. Fans can listen live HERE.
The Loggers will return home on Thursday, May 28 for their 2015 home opener presented by EGS. Festivities will kick off with a special opening day luncheon at 11:30 a.m. at the ballpark featuring former Milwaukee Brewer great Gorman Thomas. Fans can purchase a special opening day ticket package for just $10 that includes a lunch pass and a ticket to the home opening game at 7:05 p.m. when the Loggers host Wisconsin Rapids.
