LA CROSSE, WI- The Loggers fell to the Woodchucks 9-2 tonight in Copeland Park. Dalton Viner (San Jacinto) made his debut for La Crosse, pitching four innings. He gave up four runs, but also struck out four batters. Wisconsin’s bats gave them the lead and they did not look back.
After falling behind 2-0, La Crosse notched off half of the lead with a Keith Skinner (North Florida) double that scored his college teammate Alex Merritt.
Max Ponzurich (Virginia Tech) answered by hitting his league-leading third home run of the season off Viner in the third inning.
Merritt went back to work in the bottom of the third by hitting in Jacob Boston (Mesa CC) to bring the Chucks lead to 3-2.
Nolan Gromacki (Missouri) and Jordan Jess (Minnesota) came in to finish the last three innings of the game. Nolan went two innings, gave up 1 hit and struck out two. Jordan paved through the ninth with his second hitless inning of the season.
The Woodchucks and Loggers face off again tomorrow at 7:05 to finish off a four game away/home series. The Wilmar Stingers make the trip down the Lumberyard to play a two game series on Wednesday and Thursday.
