MEQUON, WI – The La Crosse Loggers first trip to Kapco Park in Mequon, Wisc. was an interesting and shorter one than usual as they fell to the host Lakeshore Chinooks 7-3 in a seven inning affair that was shortened by very thick fog.
Loggers started Ryan Marks (Columbia) helped Lakeshore jump out to a 1-0 lead after one inning after three free passes and a single plated the Chinooks first run and then Lakeshore pushed across three more in the third to chase Marks from the game, putting the Chinooks up 4-0 after three.
The Lumbermen stormed back, however, scoring three in the fourth thanks to RBI singles from Jordan Zimmerman (Michigan State) and Brock Lundquist (Long Beach State) and trimmed the Lakshore lead to 4-3.
Still down one heading to the top of the sixth, the Loggers loaded the bases with nobody out before Lakshore reliever Mashall Kasowski induced a popout, strikeout, popout to get out of the jam. The Chinooks then tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the frame off of Loggers reliever Michael Echavia (Chabot College) to run the score to 7-3 before the game was halted in the top of the seventh due to thick fog.
Marks (1-1) took the loss for La Crosse on the mound. Lundquist led the Loggers offense with a pair of hits and an RBI.
The loss drops the Loggers to 10-9 on the season. The same two teams will do battle again on Sunday at 5:05 p.m. at Kapco Park in the series finale. Air time on the Loggers Radio Network is 4:30 p.m.
