KENOSHA, WI – The La Crosse Loggers edged the Kenosha KingFish by a final score of 3-2 to complete a two-game sweep of Kenosha in front of 2,066 fans at Simmons Field.
Mason McCoy (Iowa) got the Loggers started right away when he singled on the first pitch of the game. After moving up on a wild pitch, he came around to score on a Will Savage (Columbia) RBI single. Two batters later, Savage tagged up and scored on a Brock Lundquist (Long Beach State) RBI sacrifice fly to give the Loggers a 2-0 lead.
Jason Scholl would get the KingFish on the board in the home half of the second inning when he hit a solo home run off of Loggers starter Mark Ecker (Texas A & M) to cut the Loggers lead to 2-1. But that would be all Kenosha would get off of Ecker, who was making his 2015 debut. The right-hander limited the KingFish to just that one run on three hits while striking out four over five innings of work to earn the victory.
The Lumbermen would stretch their lead to 3-1 in the top of the fourth thanks to a single from Jordan Pearce (Nevada), followed by a Ronnie Gideon (Texas A & M) double and then a RBI sac fly from Denz'l Chapman (San Diego State).
Liam Carter (Missouri) relieved Ecker and tossed a scoreless sixth and seventh inning to keep the score at 3-1 before turning it over to Jordan Jess (Minnesota) in the eighth. Kenosha would load the bases off of Jess via a hit by pitch, bloop single and a check swing infield single. With two outs, Kenosha batter Jack Sundberg then drew a walk on a 3-2 pitch to plate the KingFish second run and make it 3-2.
Loggers skipper would summon closer Ty Provencher (Long Beach State) at that point and he got the final out of the eighth via a fly out to get out of the jam before pitching a perfect ninth to secure the victory and record his fifth save of the season.
With the win, the Loggers third straight, they improve to 16-13 on the year and will now wrap up their currrent seven-game road trip by traveling to Wisconsin Rapids on Thursday for a 7:05 p.m. contest with the Rafters at Witter Field. Air time on the Loggers Radio Network is set for 6:30 p.m.
