Battle Creek, Mich. – La Crosse pounded out ten hits in a 4-1 win over the Battle Creek Bombers. Alex Shake (Illinois Central) got the win, moving the Loggers to 9-7 in the second half and 28-22 overall.

Mason McCoy (Iowa) continued his record-breaking success at the plate with a leadoff double in the 1st. Jordan Zimmerman (Michigan State) brought in his 34th run on a RBI groundout to third.

Battle Creek followed the early deficit in with a run of their own in the 2nd. Blake Swann (Florida Southern) walked and was moved to third base on a one-out double by Brennon Lund (BYU). The game was tied up on a sacrifice fly to right field.

The Loggers took the lead back in the 3rd when McCoy led off the inning with a single. With two outs and McCoy on second base, the run was able to score when Zimmerman’s ground ball was misplayed by the shortstop. The run was the 55th of the season for McCoy, tying him for most of any Logger in a single season.

Alex Shake (Illinois Central) made his first start of the season tonight and it had his way with the Bomber hitters. In 6.0 innings pitched, Shake only gave up a run on four hits and struck out five more.

Luis Trevino (Navarro College) made his first start since taking place of the injured Riley Adams (San Diego). He singled with two outs to get the 6th inning going. The next three Loggers singled, scoring two runs to make it 4-1 La Crosse.

Battle Creek loaded the bases with no one out off Logger reliever Jordan Pearce (Nevada), but Jordan Jess (Minnesota) was able to escape the inning without any damage. He finished off the 9th inning as well to secure the win for the Loggers.

The win was a big one for La Crosse as the four other top five teams in the South fell. The Loggers are now tied for 3rd place in the second-half, two games behind Kenosha. They also boosted their lead for the final playoff spot to four games. Mason McCoy had his team record 25th multi-hit game of the season, adding to his already impressive season.
