La Crosse, Wisc. – The Loggers look strong as they approach the end of the regular season with two victories tonight against Madison. The first game was from a rain out in June.

The Mallards got on the board in the 3rd inning of game 1. Jake Roberts (Yakima Valley CC) singled and scored on a Tony Butler (Madison College) double.

La Crosse scored six unanswered runs in the 4th and 5th innings on two-run home runs by Jordan Zimmerman (Michigan State), Ryan Kirby (San Diego), and Mason McCoy.

McCoy went 2-for-3 in the game, breaking the single season Northwoods League hits record held by Luis Rivera (Waterloo) in 1995 with 107.

Alex Shake (Illinois Central) pitched 5.0 innings for the win, giving up a run on four hits and struck out four more. La Crosse took the first game of the double header 6-1.

La Crosse took the early lead in game 2 when Michael Echavia (Chabot) singled and moved to second on a throwing error by Mallard pitcher Troy Kenkel (UW-La Crosse). The very next batter, Luis Trevino (Navarro JC), singled to left to score Echavia.

The Loggers put an insurance run up in the 6th. Chris Baker (Washington) singled up the middle to lead off the inning. Following an Echavia walk, Luis Trevino drove in a run on a single to put La Crosse up 2-0 going into the last inning.

The win puts the Loggers record at 40-30 overall. Madison currently holds a one game over Green Bay lead for the second seed in the playoffs, Green Bay a one game lead over the Loggers for third. If La Crosse defeats Madison tomorrow night, they will clinch the third seed and play in Madison on Monday. If they do not win tomorrow, they will play in Kenosha for the first playoff game.

La Crosse and Madison face off for the final regular season game of the season. Come to the park tomorrow for Fan Appreciation Night! Game time is 5:05, gates open at 4.
