Kenosha, Wisc. – The Loggers opened up their fourteenth season on the road, at the defending champion Kenosha Kingfish. Kenosha won their first Northwoods League championship in just their third season. The two clubs split their eight matchups during the previous season, and Kenosha was where the road ended in the playoffs for La Crosse last season. Now, the offseason division shakeup has changed the context of this matchup. With La Crosse now in the North Division, La Crosse and Kenosha are only playing in two of four interdivisional series this season.

Nelson Martz (Lewis Clark) took the mound as the Loggers’ opening day starter against the Kingfish’s Brendon Allen (Eastern Illinois).

Kenosha came out firing early in front of the home crowd. Two Kingfish crossed the plate in the second inning and a Cal Jadacki (St. Joesph) double in the fourth put Kenosha up 3-0. Allen came out firing on the defensive side as well. He pitched six scoreless innings, while striking out nine Loggers.

The new Lumberman fought back in the seventh inning. Logger catcher Luis Trevino (Navarro) energized the comeback with a two-run double, leading to the tying run later in the inning. Both teams held each other in check, sending the game into extra innings.

Kenosha threatened in the bottom of the tenth, loading the bases up with one out. Kian O’Brien (Madison College) brought in the winning run on a base hit to center field.

The Loggers and Kingfish battling it again tomorrow in Kenosha at 6:35. Tune into the game tomorrow by listening to the La Crosse Radio Network on Eagle 102.7, the La Crosse Loggers Baseball app, or streaming the game live from lacrosseloggers.com.
