La Crosse, Wisc.- The Loggers drop the first game of the series to the Honkers 9-6. This was the first time the I-90 rivals have played against each other since 2009.
The Honkers got to Logger starter Jacob Liebelt (Wabonese CC) early in the first. Bryce Marquart (Bethel) reached on an error to start the game, followed by a single by Christopher Scalisi (Redlands). Two wild pitches scored Marquart and moved Scalisi to third. Christopher scored on a single as apart of a three-run inning for Rochester.
La Crosse responded in the bottom of the 1st with a run on a fielder’s choice by David Jacob (Quincy).
The Loggers continued in the 2nd with two walks to start the inning. Casey Danley (Illinois Central) brought both runners in with a bases loaded single to center, but was thrown out at second on the play.
Rochester strengthened their lead in the 3rd with three runs on four hits and a walk.
The Loggers took two of the runs back when Luke Farley (Iowa) hit a two-run single to center field to score Brandon Larkin-Guilfoyle (Davenport) ad Lorenzo Hampton Jr. (California).
In a 7-6 game, two errors by Logger catcher Ramon Padilla (Illinois Central) let the dream of a comeback slip away.
The loss puts the Loggers at 2-3 for the season. Rochester earns their first win of the season, moving to 1-3. The two teams travel to Rochester tomorrow for a game at Mayo Field in Rochester. The Loggers return home Monday for a game against the Express. Game time tomorrow is a 1:05 start.
