La Crosse, Wisc.- The Loggers take both games of the doubleheader against the Lakeshore Chinooks tonight. La Crosse took the second game 4-2.
Cullen Large (William & Mary) got it started for La Crosse in the opening frame. He scored on an error by Chinook second baseman Royce Ando (Michigan State) on a throw to home plate. With two on and one out, Justin Wylie (San Diego State) doubled to the right field corner, scoring both runners.
Lakeshore got a run back in the 2nd inning. Owen Miller (Illinois State) single that scored Kurtis Brown (Richmond) from second base.
Another Chinook scored in the 4th on a wild pitch by Jonathan Teaney (San Diego). Lakeshore threatened with the tying run on third base with two outs. Gavin Johns made a diving play on a hard groundball down the first base line to save the lead.
Garrett Zech (South Florida) walked with an out in the 4th inning. He stole two bases to put himself 90 feet from home for the reigning NWL MVP Mason McCoy (Iowa). Mason singled to centerfield, to return the Logger lead to two runs.
Teaney made it five innings, giving up two runs on two hits. He walked four and struck out five Chinooks. He wins his third game of the season. Joey Abraham (Vanderbilt) takes the loss (1-1). Andrew Perez (South Florida). La Crosse moves to 10-6 with the win. Lakeshore falls to 6-10.
The North Division-leading Waterloo Bucks are the next visitors to the Lumberyard. They play a pair against the Loggers tomorrow and Thursday. Game time tomorrow is 7:05 PM. Gates open at 6 PM.
